Boadicea 2010

The accounts have all been verified and we are pleased to announce that we have raised £1940!
This means that we will be able to present cheques for £970 each to the Friends of Riverwalk School and the Friends of Priory School.
The presentation to the Riverwalk School was on Friday 17th September. The money will go towards a new sensory room for the school.

The Friends of Priory School have written to advise how pleased they were, the following is an extract of a letter from their Chairman.
"Thanks for the very generous donation made to us by the ICENI MG Club.
The School has been considering appropriate application and we have decided, at a cost of £950, to buy 50 chairs to replace those in the dining area. the old chairs were on their last legs and made of spindly metal with thin plastic seats. They reminded me of the chairs offered to those visiting residents of Norwich prison - basic, cold and institutional.
The school has endeavoured over the years to create an atmosphere and environment as akin to home as possible, particularly bearing in mind the various problems facing our children, but financial constraints have always been there, Your Club's donation has enabled a long standing wish to be realised"

Sunday 23rd May 2010, will be remembered for lots of things
The 11th running of the Boadicea Run.
    Terrific scenic routes around Suffolk
Fantastic support from the Control Tower staff
Some of the best May weather many of us have seen.

All together it tuned out to be an enjoyable day for all who attended. We had 95 entries (including 12 ICENI members) and the Control Tower staff commented that they were an extremely pleasant and courteous group of people - but then we all know that this is normal for classic car owners!

Tony's idea of offering multiple route choices went down very well, some preferring the shorter versions and enjoying more time enjoying the sunshine and facilities at the venue, and others trying up to 3 routes (we have yet to hear from anyone who did all 4!)

Our thanks to the Control Tower people who looked after us so well - even including a guided tour, the team who planned the event and were there on the day to make it all run smoothly, and of course the sponsors and entrants for helping us to raise money for our charities.

Every year, resources permitting, we organise a national event open to owners of all makes of classic car, known as the Boadicea Run.

We use this as an opportunity to show entrants what a wonderful part of the country we live in and to raise money for local charities. In 2009 we were able to donate £750 each to 2 local schools who cater for children with special educational needs. This helped the Friends of Riverwalk School support their Summer Playscheme and Friends of Priory School have bought a piano.

The 2010 run is planned for Sunday 23rd May and will start at the Rougham Airfileld Control Tower Museum (one of the local sites used for Jan 2010 Hairy Bikers programme on Sunday Lunches), this is aprox. 3 miles east of Bury St Edmunds, just off the A14. (IP30 9XA)

Rougham Airfield was home to the USAAF322nd and 94th Bomb Groups during the Second World War. Entrance to the Control Tower Museum is free of charge - donations welcomed.
Dogs allowed if kept on a lead.

The cost is £20 per car, which includes a £5 refreshment voucher. Entries close on 15th May 2010, forms received after this date might be accepted but we cannot guarantee a rally plate.
